JoFish asked me, as he often does, “Mama, do you love me?”

And I answered, as I always do, “YES, I love you! I love you more than you could know! I love you sooooo much!”

I wondered about it — why does he ask me this so much? And, I wonder what he thinks about me? So I asked. “JoFish, do you love me?”

He paused. “Hmm… I like you a little bit.”

I was humored by his candor, and pained by it, too. But I didn’t let him see either.

Then I thought about it that same exchange from God’s perspective. How we ask God, “God, do you love me?”

And He responds, as He always does, with something like, “YES, I love you! I love you more than you could know! I love you soooooo much! So much that I even gave my Son’s life for you.”

And then He asks us, “Do you love Me?”

We pause. “Hmm… I like you a little bit. On Sundays, from 10 to noon.”
