Today Button led worship for the first time. She has been expressing an interest in it for a while. It took some time to get to this point, though. We had to learn that worship happens as much from the chair as it does from the stage. If she can’t worship from the chair, then she can’t lead worship from the stage. That took months.
We also had to help her learn that worship isn’t something you just do for fun. It is a commitment, and a sacrifice. For example, she had to make the effort to get up super early to get there in time to practice. And when she wanted to take a break during practice to get something to eat, she couldn’t. She had to pick – either have a snack or commit to practice. But you don’t get to both lounge around and also be part of the worship team. You can take a break or you can sacrifice, it’s your choice. Well, she waited to eat until later and committed herself to the practice.
And I was so very proud of her for leading worship today. She wasn’t just singing on stage, she was truly worshiping!
