So I learned last night that my granma — my last living grandparent — is about to pass away. She’s a pioneer woman who moved out from our family’s Oregon trail homestead, went to college, ran off with an exceptionally talented musician (my granpa, who passed away this past March), and made it through life with a lot of grit and hardened determination.

There are so many things I admire about her, and so many memories I have of her. Like the time I hid behind her bed until she came out from the shower, jumped out, and scared her nearly to death. Oh boy did I get it!!!

Any case, my WONDERFUL husband has apparently notified several people who care about me and has asked them to pray for me. I got a note from one of them, and it was so heart-warming and encouraging, both for the heart it conveyed, but also for the power in the verse she shared:

My dearest Kelly,
I am so sorry to hear the news of your grandmother. I will be praying for you and your family during this difficult time. Take comfort in knowing that the Lord is close to those whose hearts are breaking. He is always there for you… and you are surrounded by friends willing to help and support you through this time.
Please let me know if there is anything that I can do. If you need someone to listen… a shoulder to cry on… or if you just need a break – and a babysitter to watch the kids… please, call me.
I love you

PS. I read this and thought of you – and what you shared on Monday…
Psalm 33:20-22
We wait in hope for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name. May Your unfailing love be with us, LORD, even as we put our hope in You.
