Joseph rolled from his back to his tummy for the first time on July 4. This is a huge physical development for which we have been eagerly awaiting since we brought him home!

Joseph recently (like within the past 2 weeks) requires much more interaction and activity. I suspect that his mind is ready to explore and be curious – all the things that come with crawling. But his body is not there yet! So it’s frustrating for him.

He’s saying a lot of consonants now. About a month ago, it was just “b.” Now he says “da” (mostly directed at Niki), “de” (mostly directed at Button), “maaaamaaa”, “m”, “w”, “s”, “p”, etc. He has said “dada” when trying to get Niki’s attention, and in a moment of great frustration, he said “sista!!!” to get Button’s attention. But I’m not counting either of them as first words because I want to be sure, and I want it to be a consistent use of the word.

He’s tailored his cries/vocal expressions to let us know when he’s uncomfortable, bored, hungry, tired, or needs a diaper change. We haven’t mastered all the cues yet, but he’s definitely consistent in his expression. Yeah, the kid’s a bit brighter than us…

Today Joseph drank through a straw for the first time. : D
