I was meeting a friend for lunch the other day and got horribly turned around and stuck in traffic. I blew about an hour. I was really frustrated, and became increasingly frustrated as I got closer and closer to finally meeting up with her. I wasn’t in much of a mood to go to lunch any more, let alone show her the love that I had intended to — which was the whole point of the lunch any way! ARGH!!!
And then I had a God moment.
Why are you so upset? came the gentle prodding.
BECAUSE I’M STUCK IN TRAFFIC, WASTING TIME!
Wasting time how?
. . . Well, EVERY MINUTE I’M STUCK IN TRAFFIC IS ANOTHER MINUTE I DON’T GET TO SPEND WITH MY KIDS. SEE! IT’S ALREADY 2! I JUST LOST AN HOUR WITH MY KIDS!
So you’re upset now because of something you think you’ve lost in the future?
…Yeah…Ok, so I’m living in the future and not in the present. And I remember how You have already taught me that I am to live in the present, not in the future or the past.
Give yourself wholly to the present, and let me take care of the future.
Ok – Sorry. I won’t be upset any more.
Then I looked down at the clock and remembered that earlier that morning, in anticipation of daylight savings, I had prematurely set my clock 1 hour ahead. It was only 1pm after all.
